I've used SwiftShader 2.1 for quite some time with no ill effects, especially since you copy them into the game folder itself. I've tested these things with "Foxtail" on the mighty ASUS which runs the game just fine by itself, and they work on it too. This is a last resort: that extra "settings.xml" file and the three files from "SwiftShader 2.1" got the game running on an antique laptop. You should try and find out if indeed it is. This can be tricky- just because you have Windows 10 does NOT mean DirectX 9.0 is installed from the get-go. Secondly, the game needs DirectX 9.0 installed, at least if you want to try it that way.
